When should I recite Shema and Ha-mapil if we are planning to be intimate?

You can wash hands and recite Shema and Ha-mapil after relations. Alternatively, since Ha-mapil is considered a broad beracha of praise (see more here), it need not be said immediately before sleep. If you prefer, you can say Shema and Ha-mapil before relations (and still speak as necessary after you recite them).
