Why separate siblings at prayer?

Curious to understand the reasoning behind saying males and females above bar and bat mitzva age should sit separately when it comes to siblings, in your discussion of prayer as a family at home. (Here.)

The halachic discussion of gender separation for prayer does not make an exception for siblings of a certain age.

We avoid gender mixing at prayer not only out of concern about potential sin between man and woman, but also to create an atmosphere of heightened sanctity. There is an educational opportunity here, to gently reinforce the message that even when the nuclear family prays together at home without a mechitza, the way we form community for prayer services differs from usual interactions.
